A compilation of Rachmaninoff recordings that Horowitz approved for release before his death. The Rachmaninoff piano works were Horowitz's most important performing repertoire. This set includes Horowitz's recordings for RCA and Columbia between 1951 and 1981, which were released before his death. The set includes two recordings of Horowitz's trademark Piano Concerto No. 3 (1951 mono and 1978 live stereo), Piano Sonata No. 2 (1968 and 1980, both live), and performances of 15 of the 22 pieces in his repertoire during his lifetime. The album includes performances of 15 of the 22 pieces in Horowitz's repertoire during his lifetime. Horowitz met Rachmaninoff in person in January 1928 in New York, where he was making his U.S. debut, and played the Piano Concerto No. 3 accompanied by the composer. It was a memorable experience that I will never forget. It was my real debut.
