Description:
Recorded using the historic organ of St. Barbara's Church. Recorder Julia Fritz plays a moving masterpiece from the Italian Baroque era! The city's fame spread throughout Europe thanks to the musicians of the time, most notably Monteverdi. This album includes works by Giovanni Battista Fontana (1589-1630), Angelo Notari (1566-1663), and Francesco Rovigo (1541-1597), all of whom lived at the same time as Monteverdi. In addition to works for recorder, baroque harp, and organ, the collection also includes soprano vocal works. Some of the works are world premiere recordings, making this an extremely valuable album. The recorder player Julia Fritz, who is also a member of the Boreas Quartet Bremen, and her virtuoso players give a full performance. The use of the historic organ of St. Barbara's Church in this recording is also noteworthy. The organ, built by Graziadio Antegnati in 1565, is a precious tangible heritage of a time when art and culture flourished, and has undergone extensive restoration and is still playing today without fading.
