This is a collection of sextets (piano + string quintet) by three famous Russian composers. All were excellent pianists, so the piano not only dominates the sound palette of the strings, but also takes musical leadership in many passages and has an overwhelming presence in terms of virtuosity. In particular, Glinka's "Grand Sextet" could be described as a piano concerto with a small string section. The Fabergé Quintet has released four CDs on Es-dur, and their collection of Adolphe Blanc's string quintets won the 2014 ECHO Klassik in the chamber music (19th century music)/strings category.
