Maria finds in this album the perfect harmony between artistry and technique. When we hear the word "caprice," we immediately think of Paganini, but there are many other caprices. There are also Saint-Saens' "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" and contemporary works by, for example, Jordi Cervellio. I wanted to show how so many little moments from the world of music come together," Maria says. Noting that Paganini lived during the Italian bel canto period, she added, "I want to bring out the vocal qualities in the caprices and reveal the music behind the technique. The second half of the album combines solo, chamber, and orchestral caprices by later Paganini-inspired works by Saint-Saëns, Berlioz, Sarasate, Kreisler, Wieniawski, Cervellio, and Ortiz. The chamber works are performed with violinist Boris Kushnir, pianists Itamar Golan, Alexander Malofeev, and guitarist Raphael Huyatl, and the orchestral works with the Deutsches Symphony Orchestra Berlin, conducted by Mikhail Goertz. Maria Dueñas was born in Granada, is based in Vienna, and has upcoming concerts in some of the world's most prestigious halls. Fluent in Spanish, English, and German, she is one of the most sought-after musicians in the classical world today.
