The new album by unparalleled clarinetist extraordinaire Martin Fresto is a trio of clarinet, bass, and piano that focuses on the baroque music of Bach, Scarlatti, Handel, and Rameau, the late composer Alphén, as well as jazz and folklore arrangements. The arrangements are by Frédéric Frést. The arrangements were created by Frest and other performers, and as the album title "Night Passages" suggests, they create a dense and intimate sound world. Martin Frest was born in 1970. He studied in Germany and Stockholm, and won the Geneva International Competition, the world's most difficult competition. He has performed with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, and is currently one of the most exciting "clarinet wizards" recording for the Swedish BIS label from 1994 to 2013. moved to Sony Classical, where he has been experimenting not only with classical music, but also with klezmer and various genres.
