Description:
Memorial release for the 450th anniversary of Michael Praetorius' birth & 400th anniversary of his death. New sound of "Terpsichore," which contains the best hit dances of the time, performed by a unique wind ensemble. Capella de la Torre is a German Renaissance instrumental wind ensemble specializing in medieval and Renaissance music, founded in 2005 by Munich-born shawm player Katharina Boiml and named after the 16th century Spanish composer Francisco de la Torre and the medieval minstrel who The name is a play on the 16th century Spanish composer Francisco de la Torre and the Spanish "de la Torre" (from the top of the tower), which is a reference to a medieval bard who played music from the top of a tower. The orchestra is almost identical to the actual musicians active in Nuremberg at the time, and has earned a reputation as a group dedicated to the practice of historical performance, winning Opus Classics and Echo Classics awards. Their latest album focuses on Michael Praetorius (1571-1621), the most important composer of the 17th century.Praetorius was the greatest theorist and composer of early German Baroque music, and is also famous for writing the "Syntagma Musikum," which is considered the world's first musical dictionary. During his lifetime, he composed more than 1,000 motets, chorales, hymns, and other church music for the Protestant (Lutheran) church. At the same time, he contributed to the development of instrumental music. The "Terpsichore," a collection of 312 dances published in Wolfenbüttel, is a representative example of this, a collection of dances from various countries popular at the time arranged for various instrumental ensembles of four to five voices. It was published in 1612. Incidentally, the title "Terpsichore" refers to one of the nine Musas of Greek mythology who presided over chorus and dance. In commemoration of the 450th anniversary of Michael Praetorius' birth and the 400th anniversary of his death, 14 selections from "Terpsichore," including Branle, Courant, Ballet, Pavan, and Gaillard, are performed with a new combination of wind instruments and lute from the Renaissance era.In addition to Pretorius' work, the album also includes delightful dance pieces by Claude Le Jeune, Toino Albo, Adrien Le Roy, and Clément Jeanquin, whose colorful and very contemporary performances bring the emotions of the Renaissance era to the present.
