Description:

Rustioni, a brilliant scholar in pursuit of the soul of Italy, finally reaches the Casella album that has been called the "Italian Mahler". Daniele Rustioni has successively recorded the quintessential composers of Italian music, Ghedini (2016) and Petrassi (2018), with his hand-picked Toscana Orchestra. His third album for Sony Classical is a collection of works by Casella, who has been attracting attention in Japan in recent years as Noseda has featured him with the NHK Symphony Orchestra. On this album, too, the works are given a fresh hearing with strong leadership and driving force. Italian composer Alfredo Casella (1883-1947) studied composition at the Paris Conservatory with Ravel and Enescu. At the same time, he became friends with Debussy, Stravinsky, and Falla, and had contact with Busoni, Mahler, and R. Strauss. While revising Baroque music by Gabrieli, Frescobaldi, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Tartini, and many others, he also incorporated them to create his own music. In addition to music, he was influenced by many of the avant-garde art forms of the time, including cubism and abstract painting. The album includes three of Casella's most important and well-known works. Casella's most famous orchestral pieces, "Paganiniana" and "Scarlattiana," are Paganini- and Scarlatti-esque as the composer himself, as the names suggest, and are fascinating in their fusion of ancient and modern music and their willingness to go their own way with neo-classical sound movements. composed in 1943, the The "Concerto for Piano, Timpani, Percussion and Strings," composed in 1943, contains a characteristic section of engine-like rhythms with austere orchestration, but also shows the influence of Vivaldi's works. The "Scarlattiana" is performed by Italian pianist Alessandro Taverna, who won a prize at the 2005 Leeds International Piano Competition and was hailed as "Michelangeli's successor," and who has also won the acclaim of Maazel. <Since his debut at the Royal Opera House in 2011, he has appeared at many of the world's most prestigious theaters, including La Scala in Milan and the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in Rome, and in 2014 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Orchestre Provincial della Toscana. He is currently known as one of the "Three Young Italian Conductors" along with Andrea Battistoni and Michele Mariotti, and his popularity and presence are rapidly increasing. He has visited Japan several times and has been giving us wonderful music with delicacy and dramaturgy with flexible sensibility. Sony Music
