Cellist János Starker and pianist György Szewek were both born in Hungary in the early 1920s. The Hungarian uprising drove them to flee to the West in search of freedom, and they remained close friends and performers for many years. This recording, made in Paris in 1959, shows "the cello's tone is refined and exquisitely colored. The pianist plays in perfect harmony with his partner. Warner Music Japan
