Description:
The Prince Rasha Quintet's superb avant-garde jazz magnum opus, recorded in 1962. Rasha, who "prefers to use a wooden flute," concentrates on flute, while Sonny Simmons, Rasha's frequent collaborator who would finally step into the spotlight some 30 years after signing with Quincy Jones' Qwest Records, plays alto saxophone. Songs like the jaunty "Bojangles" and the rhythm-forward "Congo Call" infuse the quintet's brand of free jazz with an identity independent of the Ornette Coleman influence.
