The last concerto recording by legendary Austrian clarinet virtuoso Ernst Ottensamer (1955-2017), for many years principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic, is now available from Signum Classics (UK)! In Strauss's Double Concerto (Duo Concertino), he is joined by Stjepan Trnovsky, bassoonist with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera, in a sumptuous collaboration. All four pieces were composed in the 1940s by R. Strauss and Copland. All are conducted by Richard Stump, founder and artistic director of the Academy of London. In Copland's Clarinet Concerto, written for Benny Goodman and absorbing a jazz idiom, you can enjoy Ottensamer's transformative tone and adoring technique. Tokyo M-Plus
