Description:

Louis Armstrong, the most influential musician of all time and entertainer of the century, finally releases his final, previously unreleased masterpiece, "This Wonderful World," which took the number one spot from The Beatles in 1968 when they were dominating the UK charts. Armstrong. This album was recorded live at the BBC in London, England, a few weeks later on July 2 of the same year.Recorded in high-quality, high-definition audio and video, the concert features many of Louis Armstrong's greatest hits, including his first public performance of "Ole Miss" by W.C. Handy, the chart-topping "This Wonderful World," and classic versions of such international hits as "Mack the Knife" and "Hello, Dolly! and classic versions of international hits such as "Mack the Knife" and "Hello Dolly! This session was broadcast on BBC "Show Of The Week - Louis Armstrong" on September 22, 1968, two months after the recording. From the moment Louis Armstrong received his copy of this recording, he wanted the world to hear this music, so he put a note on the outside of the tape box that read "FOR THE FANS" and sent copies of the tape to his friends, who played them whenever he had guests over. More than 50 years after his death, the tapes will finally be shared with fans around the world.Ricky Riccardi, Louis Armstrong biographer and Director of Research and Collections at the Louis Armstrong House Museum, who wrote the liner notes for the album, commented on the album as follows. I can't tell you how much I wished many of his friends and fans could have heard this music while he was alive." Although Armstrong was not yet born when he passed away, it gives us great pride to know that a new generation will be able to enjoy this work, including the younger fans who were inspired by his music. Armstrong once said, 'I am here for happiness. To be able to release such a wonderful album now, decades later, is a reminder that this is still a wonderful world we live in, and that after all, we can never walk alone, and that each of us is carrying on the mission that took his life! I feel it."
