Lovers Gennaro and Teresina are lost at sea one day, and only Gennaro returns to the harbor. Teresina, who was thought to be dead, was actually favored by Golfo, the king of the sea, and is now a sea nymph, trapped in a blue cave. Gennaro has come looking for her, but Teresina, whose memory has been stolen by Golfo, has no idea who Gennaro is. What will happen to them? Choreographer Auguste Bournonville created more than 50 ballets for the Royal Danish Ballet and was acclaimed worldwide for his vibrant and beautiful stage work. One of his masterpieces is the ballet "Naples. The story was inspired by his trip to Italy in 1841, when he was exiled from the country for six months because of the King's anger.The production uses a staging inspired by Federico Fellini's early films of the 1950s, with new choreography by Sorella Englund and Nicolai Hübbe, and new music for the second act. Maya Raven's elaborate sets and costumes also succeed in transforming the production into an extremely modern work without destroying the classical atmosphere of the 1842 premiere. Naxos Japan
