Description:
Four and a half years after her last Grammy & Mercury nominated album, British folk singer Laura Marling's new album. Patterns in Repeat, her eighth album, co-produced with Dom Monks (Big Thief et al.), is released.Laura Marling will release her new album, Patterns in Repeat, on October 25, 2024 on Chrysalis/Partisan Records on October 25, 2024. Patterns in Repeat was written, recorded, and produced by Laura in her home studio in London; Song For Our Daughter, released to critical acclaim in 2020, was written "for and about an imaginary daughter. If it was written metaphorically, from a point of view, Patterns in Repeat was written after the birth of her daughter in 2023, and as a result, Laura reflects on the patterns unfolding within the constellation of family. The songs on the album are rooted in a very specific and revelatory period in her life, and are a profound reflection on the ideas and actions we have all been striving for through our families for generations. The album was recorded almost entirely in Marling's home studio and co-produced by Dom Monks. String master Rob Moose also participated. The recording sessions often include Laura's daughter by her side, reflecting not only the metaphorical affectionate nature of the album's content, but also its purely situational nature. Patterns in Repeat is the eighth studio album by the always prolific British musician, and the longest interval between releases in her 15-year career.Laura Marling has released seven albums to date, earning Grammy and Mercury Award nominations and a Brit Award. She has steadily worked her way from her Berkshire childhood, through the New Folk scene, to a musical presence worthy of respect. When she released her debut album, Alas, I Cannot Swim, she was only 18 years old. The works that followed, from 2010's I Speak Because I Can to 2017's Semper Femina, captured a young songwriter exploring both technique and identity. Her voice, supple and seductive, has evolved as well. It became richer, harder, and smokier by necessity. Meanwhile, the songs spoke of intelligence, worldliness, and femininity. But the image of youthful success was strong, and for many, Laura Marling remained the folk singer with the simple, clear voice of her early years. In 2020, Marling released her seventh album, Song For Our Daughter. This album, which can be ranked as her most lush work to date, is a masterpiece, adding lush string arrangements and a broad sense of scale without losing the familiarity and reverence we have come to know and love about her over the past decade. The album received critical acclaim and resulted in Mercury and Grammy nominations.
