Pianist Herbert Schiff has attracted attention for his innovative concert programs and CD recordings! In this album, he alternates between the music of Schubert and Janacek to explore the relationship between the two. According to him, Schubert's music "gives the impression that he is not very sure where his destination is or what path he is taking," and this sense of improvisation, of stepping from one piece to the next, is an element that is also strongly felt in Janacek's music. The idea to explore the relationship between the music of Franz Schubert and Leos Janacek first came to me in a kind of dream world between sleep and waking. As I lay there resting, I began to think about these two composers. Thus, the starting point for this album was not an intellectual one, but more like a gut feeling.
