Mravinsky's awesome and full of bizarre tension "String Chere" SACD Hybrid on SACD Hybrid. Limited edition. This time, all the recordings were remastered from broadcast recordings. Bartók's "Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta" was released on the same Praga label some 20 years ago to great acclaim. The previous disc shows a live performance at Smetana Hall, and this one is labeled as Dvorak Hall, but they are the same source. This piece is truly suited to Mravinsky. The ensemble is astonishingly precise, and the tension is overwhelming from the very beginning. The remastering has increased the amount of information in the sound, reminding us again of the greatness and fearlessness of the piece. Honegger's Symphony No. 3 was performed live in Moscow on February 28, 1965. Honegger's demanding musicality fits perfectly with Mravinsky, and the result is wonderful. Stravinsky's "Agon" is a surprising repertoire for Mravinsky, but it was choreographed in the U.S. by George Balanchine, a classmate of his from the Petrograd Conservatory, and while the October 29, 1965 Leningrad Philharmonic Great Hall concert is known, this The Moscow Conservatory concert on October 30, 1968 has never been released on the Vienna Sound label.The "Mravinsky Concert List" by Kenzo Amaha states that he is performing Beethoven's symphonies in Leningrad on the same day.
