Yutaka Sado will assume the position of music director of the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra in September 2015. The Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra, which holds regular concerts at the “Vienna Musikverein” and the “St. Pölten Festival Theater,” is one of Austria’s most important orchestras, boasting a tradition spanning over 100 years. The Grafenegg Music Festival features the Tonkünstler Orchestra as its resident orchestra. A DVD featuring live footage from the festival, held in June 2015, has already been released. Grafenegg is located about a 40-minute drive from downtown Vienna. The gardens of the beautiful Grafenegg Castle (also spelled Grafenegg) feature an open-air theater and an auditorium. While performances are held year-round, the summer music festival began in 2007. Rudolf Buchbinder serves as artistic director, working alongside the Tonkünstler Orchestra to bring the festival to life. The 2015 festival featured Piotr Beczała, one of the most acclaimed tenors on the world’s opera stages; mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Kulman, who captivates audiences worldwide with her overwhelming talent and beauty; and Yulia Fischer—a young violinist already hailed as one of the leading violinists of the 21st century—all of whom are soloists of international renown.
