Martin, Frank (1890-1974)
Description:
Pursuing a unique sound. Sketches for violin concerto and orchestra to enjoy the rich sound of Frank Martin! Svetlin Rusev's solo performance is also noteworthy! Frank Martin (1890-1974), a leading Swiss composer, studied in Zurich, Rome, and Paris, and after being influenced by César Franck and the Impressionists, he developed his own style with a lyricism that is at once modern sounding and lyrical. Martin's signature is his use of chamber music ensembles, even in his orchestral works, and his extensive use of flute and piano. The violin concerto and sketches for orchestra recorded here also show this characteristic, with rich sounds and colorful orchestral music. Svetlin Rusev, violin soloist, was born in Bulgaria in 1976. She studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and the Ecole Normale in Paris with Gerard Poullet, Douvi Elly, Jean-Jacques Kantorov, and others. She won the first prize at the Sendai International Music Competition (2001) and is a popular violinist in Japan. In terms of recordings, he has released Lalo's Spanish Symphony (ARC-16006), recorded under the direction of his teacher Kantorov, and plays beautifully on a Stradivarius 1710 "Camposelice".
