This SACD hybrid disc of concerto orchestral works by Greek composer Nikos Skalkottas (1904-1949), a student of Schoenberg, is the subject of a world premiere recording by the BIS label. This disc features his concerto orchestral works with violin and piano solos. Skalkottas himself was a violinist, and his violin works in particular are interesting in their own right, but as is common with all of his works, they require a great deal of technical skill. One of the highlights of this recording is "Digenes in his Last Agony. The voice of Eleftherios Venizelos, a leading Greek politician in the first half of the 20th century, has been digitally edited and added to this recording.
