His last recording for Channel Classics was a masterpiece of the "20th century", Prokofiev's "Symphonic Concerto"! He has recorded Walton's "Cello Concerto" (OMYX4042) and Shostakovich's "Cello Concerto No. 2" (CCSSA25308) one after the other, and has a tremendous passion for performing "cello works of the mid-20th century". Peter Wispelway is a Dutch-born cellist extraordinaire. His last recording for Channel Classics, with whom he has had a long partnership, is Prokofiev's last masterpiece "Symphonic Concerto" dedicated to Rostropovich! In 1947, Prokofiev, impressed by Rostropovich's performance, decided to revise the "Cello Concerto No. 1" with the advice of his young friend.After the premiere of the newly reincarnated Cello Concerto "No. 2" performed by Rostropovich on February 18, 1952, Prokofiev's burning creative urge drove him to further revisions, and the final draft was finally completed as the "Symphonic Concerto The final version is the "Symphonic Concerto". The Symphonic Concerto was composed with Rostropovich's performance in mind, so both the cello and orchestra must have a high level of performance technique and understanding of the work. For Wispelway to take on this most difficult of difficult pieces, the presence of Sinaisky, who has inherited the traditions of his predecessors and is deeply familiar with Russian music, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, which has been trained to perfection by Gergiev, will be extremely important and dependable. ［Comment courtesy of Tokyo M-Plus.
