MATHEUS, a five-piece progressive/folk band formed in the suburbs of Oslo, Norway, released their only album on Norway:Philips in 1974, which was reissued in '22 in digisleeve format on Norway:Norske Albumklassikere! Produced by Johnny Sareussen, who also worked with PRUDENCE/DIFFERENCE. The band's folk rock is based on the folk-blues style influenced by the North American bands of the early 70's, with a touch of Nordic emotion and smooth Norwegian sound. The sound, which also has a rock dynamism with a sweet guitar reminiscent of CAMEL and a low center of gravity beat, was released on a major label, and the fact that it was released on a major label also shows the skill of the Norwegians in bringing together the greatest common denominator of popular music of the time from a unique Norwegian perspective. It is a good work that is regrettable that it was only released once, as it boasts a high degree of perfection. The master was newly remastered by Giert Clausen based on the master distributed by Norway:Universal.
