Description:

A joyful performance befitting the "sunny" side of Shostakovich ◆ This collection features selections from Shostakovich’s works that share the common theme of “joy.” Unlike the dramatic and weighty image typically associated with his symphonies, the recordings here express the cheerful and optimistic aspects of his life. ◆ Individual release of recordings originally included in the 28-disc box set released in 2025. 【Track Listing】 ◆Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 35: Composed between 1932 and 1933. It features a unique instrumentation combining a string orchestra and piano with a solo trumpet. The work is filled with humor, featuring quotations and parodies of Haydn and Beethoven scattered throughout. ◆ Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 102: Composed in 1957 as a 19th birthday gift for his son Maxim. It also served an educational purpose, with the first and third movements containing elements designed for finger exercises. Written during the “Thaw” period following Stalin’s death, this work has a bright and fresh tone. ◆Three Fantastic Dances, Op. 5: Piano solo pieces written between 1920 and 1922 during the composer’s youth. Consisting of a march, a waltz, and a polka, they possess a youthful and witty character. ◆No. 24 from 24 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87: Composed as a tribute to Bach on the 200th anniversary of his death, inspired by the composer’s visit to Leipzig. Included as the album’s finale, No. 24 consists of a meditative prelude and a four-part fugue. 【Performers】 ◆Giuseppe Andarolo (Piano): A virtuoso who has won first prize at the 55th Busoni International Piano Competition, the 1st Sendai International Music Competition, and the 17th Porto International Music Competition in Portugal. ◆Abruzzo Symphony Orchestra: An orchestra based in L’Aquila, the capital of the Abruzzo region in central Italy. ◆Filippo Aria (Conductor): Aria, who began conducting at the age of 22 and has already conducted in over 30 countries, is an experienced conductor with a wide-ranging repertoire. 【Recording】 ◆Recorded in September 2023 at the Renzo Piano Auditorium in L’Aquila, Abruzzo, central Italy. 【Product Specifications】 ◆Case: 10mm-thick polystyrene (jewel case). ◆Booklet: English and Italian. 12 pages. Includes liner notes by Nada Zitt, professor at the Nocera Terinese Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Conservatory. ◆Made in the EU. Disc manufactured by Optimal Media (part of the German EDEL Group).
