Born John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, he has played with Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, and was also in the mod band Artwoods with Jon Lord and others before forming Deep Purple. Keef Hartley is a drummer who played with Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, and also played in the mod band Artwoods with John Lord and others before Deep Purple was formed. Keef Hartley formed the Keef Hartley Band with Miller Anderson (g, vo), who later played with Savoy Brown and Chicken Shack, and Gary Thane (b) of Euriah Heap. This 7 CD box set contains all the original albums that Keef Hartley's band recorded for the Decca-owned Deram label between 1969 and 1972, as well as the 1973 Lancashire Hustler album, which was recorded entirely under Keef's solo moniker. Keef Hartley Band albums include "Halfbreed", the band's debut in 1969; "The Battle Of North West Six", the band's second album in 1970, which featured a guest appearance by Mick Taylor (g) just before he joined the Rolling Stones; "The Time Is Near", a third album in 1970 that boldly introduced jazzy, avant-garde brass; "Overdog", the band's fourth album in 1971 that steered the band's funky style; and "The Time Is Near", the band's big band-style live performance at the 1971 Marquee Club.
