The legendary and previously unreleased live recording of Alice Coltrane, wife of the genius John Coltrane, great aunt of Flying Lotus, and musician of many masterpieces, at Carnegie Hall in New York City on February 21, 1971, has finally been released. The performance was a special gala concert held four years after John Coltrane's untimely death to benefit the Integral Yoga Institute led by Swami Satchidananda, and produced by Sid Bernstein, who produced the first Beatles concert in the United States. The legendary concert was produced by Sid Bernstein, who produced the first Beatles concert in the U.S., and also featured Laura Nyro and The Rascals.It was also Alice Coltrane's memorable first performance at Carnegie Hall as leader, with Pharaoh Sanders and Archie Shepp on saxophones, Jimmy Garrison and Cecil McVie on bass, Ed Blackwell and Clifford Jarvis on drums, and The all-star group, which also includes Kumar Kramer (harmonium) and Tulsi Reynolds (tambora) from Satchidananda's Circle, makes for a captivating jazz ensemble. Decoded and mastered by Kevin Reeves. Includes a Japanese translation of essays by Lauren du Graff and Alice's producer Ed Michel, who has contributed to The New York Times and other publications, as well as an exclusive Japanese liner notes.
