Description:
Chopin (1810–1849) is often referred to as the “Poet of the Piano,” but he also composed a handful of chamber music works. Most of these were written during his teenage years; while they lack the depth of his later works, they are filled with sweet, lyrical melodies. The Piano Trio was composed when he was 19 and is dedicated to Crown Prince Antoni Radziwiłł of Poznań, a master cellist. The Rondo for Two Pianos was composed when he was 18. It is said that Chopin conceived the idea while spending his summer vacation at a friend’s home. This piece was published posthumously by his friend Fontana. The Variations for Flute were conceived when he was around 14 years old and are based on the aria “Born in Sorrow and Tears” from Rossini’s opera *Cenerentola*. The flute on this recording is played by the virtuoso Bainon—what a treat! The two waltzes and mazurkas were also composed when he was around 18 years old. Slightly melancholic yet sparkling, these pieces capture the essence of the young Chopin’s youth. Naxos Japan
