[13 New Stories Woven by a Maestro Who Has Walked Hand in Hand with Vivaldi] Giuliano Carmignola is an Italian violinist who, after studying under masters such as Milstein, Guri, and Sherling, has enlivened the music scene through numerous collaborations with early music ensemble conductors like Andrea Marcon and Ottavio Dantone, performing Baroque works—particularly Vivaldi’s concertos. Including recordings with relatively young ensembles such as Li Incogniti and the Accademia della Nunziata, the number of Vivaldi concertos he has recorded to date already stands at 87. However, this new album, released by Italy’s leading label ARCANA, features 13 concertos he had not previously recorded. With this release, his total number of recorded Vivaldi concertos has reached 100. Most of the pieces on this recording are standalone works not included in any existing collections, with very few existing recordings available. He is joined by I Solisti Aquilani, an ensemble based in central Italy with a wide-ranging repertoire spanning from the Baroque to the modern era. While incorporating the characteristic accents of 18th-century performance practice throughout, their interpretation—permeated by a Mediterranean sense of lyricism—brings out the unique qualities of each work. Combined with Carmignola’s truly breathtaking performance, these interpretations are sure to leave a deep impression on the listener. Musicologist Olivier Fré, who has worked with him on albums of Vivaldi’s works for the past 20 years and enjoys his utmost trust, once again serves as music editor and author of the liner notes.
