The complete Brahms symphonies and the German Requiem by the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Roger Norrington are now available at an affordable price! The performances of this duo were all highly acclaimed for their ability to refresh the image of the works by applying Norrington's years of research into performance methods at the time of the works' creation to a modern, highly functional orchestra. In the 1990s, Norrington conducted the London Classical Players to record the complete symphonies with period instruments and techniques, creating a fresh image of Brahms. This performance was originally released as a video work and later as an audio-only CD. The "pure tone" produced by Norrington's signature non-vibrato playing is still present here, and the Brahms played at an early tempo and lively, realizing Norrington's motto "to rethink great works and bring them back to life anew. The "German Requiem" recorded at the same time was recorded in 2014. It too features a beautiful, transparent sound that makes the most of pure tones.The voices of soprano Christina Landscharmer and bass Florian Bösch are also noteworthy. Naxos Japan
