Vasily Mokranyats was a Serbian composer active in the second half of the 20th century. Born to musical parents, he showed an interest in music from an early age, first studying piano at the Belgrade Music Academy. However, his interest shifted to composition and he gave up piano. He decided to pursue a career as a composer and educator. He made a great contribution to music education in Serbia throughout his life, but suddenly took his own life at the age of 60. He left behind many unfinished works, but not much research has been done on these works. His style can be divided into three distinct periods: in the 1950s, he was more folkloric; in the 1960s, he pursued lyrical expression; and from the 1970s onward, he became more mystical and contemplative, and his works became more complex in structure. This album contains works from each period, each with its own unique characteristics. It traces the unknown composer. Naxos Japan
