Raphael Wolfish, who has released the well-received "Cello Concertos by Jewish Composers in Exile" series, presents a new album of works by Weinberg, a composer who has been gaining more and more attention in recent years. Although Weinberg grew up in Warsaw and considered himself Polish, his roots are Jewish, and his works are woven with Polish and Jewish traditions. The third movement is unique in that it is in the style of a Polish dance. The powerful rhythms are very exciting. The "Concertino," long lost and discovered in 2016, is the basis for a cello concerto. It has the feel of an ensemble concerto, with a full orchestral part, but Weinberg seems to have adapted it into a "cello concerto" in order to make the cello even more active. The Fantasy begins gloomily, but the middle section is a very rewarding work with plenty of lively melodies. Naxos Japan
