Description:

The Royal Opera House's production of "Madame Butterfly" under the direction of Music Director Pappano. Mrs. Butterfly will be played by Hermonella Yao, a soprano from Albania who is very popular for her dynamic singing and good looks. And popular young tenor Marcelo Puente will play Pinkerton. The stage set is boldly amplified with Japanese imagery, and then cut to the chase with a Western sensibility. The costumes and makeup are not a blend of Japanese and Western styles, but rather a clash between the two without giving up either one's individuality. These images work three-dimensionally to give the audience a modern yet dreamlike sensation. Pappano's conducting vividly portrayed the emotions of the butterflies, creating an overwhelming drama that pushed the audience toward tragedy. Naxos Japan
