The Modigliani String Quartet, founded in 2003, spent almost a year recording Schubert's complete string quartets from February to October 2021. This is released as a box set all at once. The ensemble is wonderfully balanced throughout. When one part is playing a melody, the other parts sound in a very pleasing balance, and every moment of harmony is neatly and beautifully balanced. The play between where each part goes out and where each part goes back in is also superb. The perfect balance of vertical and horizontal lines, the pleasant sense of restraint, and the lyricism that is always in abundance, make this a truly beautiful Schubert performance.
