CONSTANTINEWEIR, who captivated fans with his captivating vocals and fashion sense during his time at Galliano, has resumed his music career! This is a joint release by his independent label, ItezRecords, and the Japanese label HotButteredRecord, run by Yamaaka Sahib (JAZZBROTHERS/AudioSutra). He first signed with AcidJazzRecords, founded by Gilles Peterson, and has contributed to works by the acid jazz group Galliano—which took the ’90s by storm—as well as S’Express, Paul Weller, Pressure Drop, Amy Winehouse, Outside, Ocean Colour Scene, Congo Natty, and—in Japan—United Future Organization (U.F.O.) and Hiroshi Kamayatsu. He later traveled to Africa, and his long-awaited new album—said to have been inspired by Sufism, the Islamic mysticism he studied for 10 years—is now complete. Centered around organic vocals and acoustic guitar, this blissful free-folk sound—where ambient sounds of nature and organ music transport you to a spiritual realm detached from the mundane—is a must-listen.
