The stunning presence of Martin James Bartlett, an emerging pianist acclaimed for his talent and graceBorn in 1996, Martin James Bartlett has phenomenal technique and has earned acclaim for playing with a talent and grace far beyond his years. 2014 he was named BBC Young Musician of the Year and has since performed with orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared at the Proms, and in the 2018/19 season, András Schiff gave a masterclass at the Verbier Festival, making him a pianist with great promise for the future. The first half of the album is Rachmaninoff's late work, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, known for its beautiful and brilliant 18th variation. This work, in which various variations are added based on the "theme" from Paganini's "24 Caprices," No. 24, "Theme and Variations," is a test of skill for a virtuoso pianist. Of course, Martin James Bartlett also shows off his technique to the fullest.In addition to his crisp touch, he has an outstanding sense of rhythm. The orchestra and the soloists are on equal footing and give a wonderful performance. The second half is a collection of solo works by Rachmaninoff and Gershwin. The charm of "Vocalise," arranged by the master musician Earl Wild, comes out in full force. The various voices intertwined with the simple main melody show an overwhelming presence. Earl Wild's disclosure of his terrific technique in the "Exercises Superlatives" is also wonderful, and we can say that a new generation of pianists has appeared on the scene. Warner Music Japan
