Description:
Editor and reviser of the “St. John Passion” for the Dutch Bach Society. The Goldberg Variations performed by Peter Darken! Dutch Bach Society, harpsichordist with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam and La Suave Melodia, world-renowned musicologist, and editor and reviser of the Dutch Bach Society’s “St. John Passion”—Darken has established a distinguished track record as a Bach scholar. Following *The Art of Fugue* (KTC1348), Darsen’s second Bach release is a coupling of the *Goldberg Variations* on harpsichord and the *Canon-like Variations* on organ. Despite being performed on different instruments—the harpsichord and the organ—the natural flow of the music as it transitions from the final movement of the “Goldberg Variations,” “ "Aria da Capo" to the first movement of the "Canon-like Variations," "Canon in Octaves," one begins to wonder if these two works were not originally composed as a single piece. This “Goldberg Variations” is presented through Darkesen’s virtuosic technique and scholarly research. It’s a fascinating new interpretation. Tokyo M Plus
