Gatti & Concertgebouw Orchestra's "Resurrection" SACD Hybrid, Blu-ray, and DVD release simultaneously!In 2016, Daniele Gatti became the seventh principal conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. This new release features a live performance from September 2016, the beginning of the 2016/17 season, on SACD Hybrid, Blu-ray, and DVD video. The program is Mahler's Symphony No. 2, the full-fledged launch of new chief conductor Daniele Gatti. The Concertgebouw Orchestra, which Mahler himself conducted and had a close relationship with, has a special tradition of Mahler performance, and Gatti's confidence in bringing it to the program in his first season is evident. A disc of Mahler's second symphony has been released on the RCO live label by Jansons (2009 recording/RCO.10102). This Jansons disc was highly acclaimed by RCO, a prestigious label with a brilliant history in the performance history of Mahler's works, bringing out the finest beauty. In concert, Gatti conducts Mahler's works energetically in many countries, and in recordings, he has released CDs of No. 4 and No. 5 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.Gatti's style, which is oriented toward dense detail and dramatic development, is a perfect match for the rich sound of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The fourth movement is an alto solo from the seventh song "Original Light" from the songbook "The Child's Wonderful Horn", and the finale of the fifth movement is the hymn "Resurrection" (Mahler's addition) from Friedrich Klopstock's lyrics, sung in high spirits. The SACD Hybrid version features Israeli soprano Chen Reis, while the Blu-ray and DVD versions feature the German soprano Annette Dasch, who is constantly sought after by maestros around the world.
