Jansons and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, with a stellar lineup of soloists including Kümaier, Fink, Padmore, and Finley, recorded Mozart's "Requiem" with Jansons conducting the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The concert was recorded live in September 2011, six months after the Concertgebouw Orchestra's performance of Mahler's Eighth Symphony, the last number in Jansons' repertoire, during the orchestra's successful 2011 series of Mahler's complete symphonies. It was also the first in a series of concerts by this duo, which will continue with Brahms in 2012 and Verdi in 2013. Known as one of the busiest conductors of our time, Jansons has already built up a considerable discography to match his illustrious career.As for the contents, in contrast to Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, which has been recorded by the Concertgebouw Orchestra (1991 session), the Berlin Philharmonic (2001 live/*video), and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (2013 live), Mozart is a surprisingly rare repertoire for Jansons. The "Motzleck" is a rare and unexpected addition to Jansons's repertoire, and it is here that the "Motzleck" appears. The soloists are also very attractive, along with the Netherlands Radio Chorus, which gave a very enthusiastic performance in the Mahler symphony recording with Jansons. The orchestra's honorary guest conductors, the "Arnoncourt Group," are a solid lineup of highly experienced performers who will give Jansons' first "Motzleck" a powerful boost.Soprano Kümaier sang Hanne in Haydn's "The Four Seasons" at the Stillearte Festival 2007, which Arnoncourt founded and presided over, and sang Brahms' "German Requiem" at the Musikverein that same year. Both Fink (contralto) and Finley (bass) sang the same part in the live recording of "Motzleck" that Arnoncourt conducted with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003. The bass Finley was also used in many recordings by Arnoncourt, and recently appeared in a live video recording of Beethoven's "Missa solemnis" conducted by Arnoncourt with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2012, where he responded with a precise expression that reflected the conductor's intentions.In recent years, Jansons has been focusing on vocal music and opera, and has long expressed in interviews his abundance of interest in these genres, and as he said, he has shown steady results with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, as in the live recording of Dvořák's "Requiem" made in 2009, The Mozart concerto is also highly anticipated.
