In September 2016, promising young Czech conductor Jakub Hruša assumed the position of Principal Conductor of the prestigious German orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. And as the first recording of this promising combination, the complete works of Smetana's "My Homeland," a milestone in Czech music, are now available on SACD hybrid. Although still in his mid-30s, he has also been appointed as the permanent guest conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, and there are high expectations for him as a talent who will lead the Czech classical music world in the 21st century. This recording is a wonderful performance that lives up to those expectations. The passion of the Czechs for their "homeland" wells up in this performance, and at the same time, they give careful attention to every detail of the score with a modern intelligence. And the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, formerly a German orchestra from Prague, adds the full sound of a German orchestra to Frusha's wonderful music.The era of Frusha and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra has just begun, but from this pre-inauguration recording it already seems foreseeable that a great era is in the making.
