Description:

Durante (1684-1755), a late Italian Baroque composer, was born in Frattamaggiore in the Kingdom of Sicily. He received musical education from an early age and was taught by many musicians, including Alessandro Scarlatti, but few details are known. However, there is no doubt that he was a great teacher and one of the greatest church music composers in Naples in the first half of the 18th century. His Christmas music, cantatas and motets adhering to the traditional Neapolitan form, was also highly regarded at the time for the brightness and slightly sentimental atmosphere it brought. Among his works, the Magnificat in B-flat major was one of his most beloved and was frequently performed well into the 19th century. Naxos Japan
