Zanja Records, a new Spanish/U.S.-based label founded by Alex González and Michael Deranian, who have an extraordinary passion for Cuban music, has launched! The first release of Zanja Records attracted a great deal of attention as a modern version of Cuban jam sessions, and now the second release is finally available. This time, the debut release is by Habana Negra, a band formed mainly by musicians who won the "JoJazz Award," a competition that serves as a gateway to success for young jazz musicians in Cuba. Guests include singers with backgrounds in son and rumba. The band's ensemble is sometimes traditional, sometimes violent, and sometimes intense. While maintaining the traditions of the past, the new generation is determined to present a new Cuban jazz style.
