THE BOLSHOI, the London band that created melancholic songs with sexy vocals, will reissue their debut album "Friends," the 1986 full-length debut album by the new wave/neo-gothic band THE BOLSHOI, formed in 1984. After being out of print for over 30 years, the album topped the alternative charts when it was released, and the first single, "Away," reached #1 on the CMJ college charts. Critics who heard the album published a number of excellent reviews, desperately trying to classify their music into genres. Because of its dark, subversive sound, BOLSHOI was categorized by critics as "gothic" at the time of its debut, but in reality, the band was just "playing" with the gothic. Their melancholy, pensive lyrics, combined with inventive pop guitar, make them nearly impossible to classify. At the bottom of the surreal lyrics, which told the stories of characters on the fringes of society, was boredom, lack of substance, and violence.With their powerful live shows, THE BOLSHOI gained many fans until they disbanded in 1988.
