A universe of voices by a prestigious London school's boys' choir The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School of London is a Catholic school founded in 1914 in memory of Cardinal Vaughan of Westminster Cathedral. The Schola Cantorum, which belongs to the school, is a boys' choir founded in 1980 and consists of current students aged 11-18. It has become a popular group, not only for religious music, but also for its participation in the "Harry Potter" soundtrack. Naturally, only male voices are used, with the soprano part being sung by a boy soprano. Their second release on the aparte label is a collection of chants by major British composers. From Purcell to the group's patron, Macmillan, the chants are moving and heartfelt. It is also a pleasure to hear a comprehensive selection of leading British composers such as Elgar, Holst, and Britten. From Parry's "We rejoice, we rejoice," which is always sung at the coronation ceremonies of the British royal family, to the magnificent sound unique to Elgar, to Holst's substantial work that strongly reminds us that he is the composer of "The Planets," we can enjoy the world of choral music that symbolizes the glorious history of England.
