Eliahu Inbal came into the world limelight with his Mahler: The Complete Symphonies (recorded 1985-92), which he conducted with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. After retiring from the orchestra, he served as Music Director of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (2001-2006) and from 2007 as Music Director of the Teatro La Fenice in Venezia. In April of this year, he assumed the position of Principal Conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. He made his first appearance in the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra subscription program in 1991, and held the post of Special Guest Conductor from 1995 to 2000. The results of this period can be heard on the Mahler Symphony No. 5 CD (FOCD9244). Inbal's Mahler performances are said to "reveal every note in the light of day. The "No. 6" has reached the point where Mahler's devastating euphoria and stylistic beauty are kept in perfect balance, the result of Inbal's maturity at over 70 years of age and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra's dedicated and flexible performance.
