This deluxe edition of David Bowie was released on June 1, 1967. In addition to the single B-sides and other tracks, it also includes a rare version of the hit "Spaced Oddity," which was Bowie's breakthrough hit. The deluxe edition includes a stereo mix of the original album produced by Mike Vernon, as well as 16 additional tracks. These include "Let Me Sleep Beside You," "Kama Man," "In the Heat of the Morning," and "London By Ta Ta," a group of songs that were the first fruits of producer Tony Visconti's longtime collaboration with Bowie. In later years, Bowie reflected on this debut album with his typical self-criticism. "In terms of the lyrics, I feel like I was struggling, trying to be something." And by "something," I mean a short storyteller. Musically, it's a pretty strange piece. I have no idea what I was going for at the time. It seems to have its roots in many places.Rock, vaudeville, music hall, that kind of thing.
