This is the third collection of complete orchestral works by Hungarian composer and teacher Léo Weinel (1885-1960), who was active at the same time as Bartók and Kodály. A perfectionist, he published only about 30 works during his lifetime, most of which have been largely forgotten, but only recently has his unique style, combining German Romanticism and Hungarian folk elements, become widely recognized. This third collection contains five works written during Weinel's mature period. In the early years of his career, he did not actively incorporate Hungarian folk music into his own compositions, but after his friend László Leiter introduced him to Hungarian folk music in 1930, he changed his approach, reflecting the many Hungarian folk songs collected at the time in his own compositions.
