Description:
The final volume of BCJ's complete recordings of J.S. Bach's cantatas, Vol. 55, is now available on Blu-ray, featuring interviews with the musicians, including music director Masaaki Suzuki. The Bach Collegium Japan's recording of the complete cantatas of J.S. Bach, which began in 1995, was completed in 2013 after 18 years of great accomplishment. This Blu-ray disc contains the final recording of Volume 55 (Mass in B minor, BWV 232, "Give Us Peace" is not included in Volume 55, so this is the first time it has been released!) This is the first release on the BIS label of a video product. The performance is recorded at 24bit / 96kHz, and the interview and special video are recorded at 24bit / 48kHz in high-resolution! This is the first time for a Japanese group to perform this truly world-class feat, and it has been performed at the Kobe Shoin Women's University Chapel since the recording began. The last of the complete cantatas recorded in February 2013 was Cantata No. 69 "Praise the Lord, O my soul", No. 30 "Rejoice, ye hosts of the redeemed", No. 191 "Glory be to God in the highest", and "Give us peace" - Mass in B minor. In addition to the performances, the program includes interviews with Masaaki Suzuki, the music director, Hidemi Suzuki, Masato Suzuki, Ryo Terakado, Natsumi Wakamatsu, Azumi Takada, Masamitsu Sannomiya, and singers Hana Vlaskova, Robin Blaise, Gerd Turck, Peter Koei, Tamaki Suzuki, and others. In addition, Robert von Bahr, owner of the BIS label, speaks passionately about the project, from its beginnings and his "overwhelming experience of knowing that they (BCJ) could convey the true meaning of Bach's music" to his confidence in the success of this great feat. This is a rich and fitting conclusion to the great collection of cantatas that the performers and others involved have devoted their lives to create. Subtitled in Japanese. This is a Blu-ray only release. King International
