Francisco Mignone was born in 1897, just like Lorenzo Fernandes, and left a vast amount of music until his death at the age of 88. In Japan, his piano works such as "Waltz on a Street Corner" are well known. Although it is impossible to sum up his personality in a few words, his colorful melodies full of Brazilian emotion are certainly one of his characteristics. The bassoon concerto in particular is a masterpiece! -- Yusuke Kimoto (Conductor, President of the Villa-Lobos Society of Japan)Born the son of Italian flutist Alfelio Mignone, Mignone showed his musical talent at an early age, becoming a pianist and conductor at the age of 13. He studied at the Conservatorio de Musica de São Paulo and the Conservatorio de Milano, and after returning to Brazil, he combined teaching with composing, writing numerous works and being hailed as one of the most important composers in Brazil after Villa-Lobos. This album contains four concertos. His concertos, in which the orchestra and soloist use the Brazilian poetry and song form of quick emboradas (exchanges), are dramatic, joyful, and emotionally rich, and are all very rewarding to listen to.Emanuele Baldini, concertmaster of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, will be the soloist in the Violin Concerto, which has been described as "the masterpiece of this challenging genre in the history of Brazilian music. *The domestic edition comes with a Japanese commentary by Yusuke Kimoto (conductor/president of the Villa-Lobos Society of Japan).
