First time out! Kempe and the Munich Philharmonic in a live performance at the Proms on September 9, 1972. The program includes Beethoven, Richard Strauss, and Dvořák, Kempe's favorite composers. In the program of the day, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with Kurt Güntner as soloist is performed between Richard Strauss and Dvorak, and on the following day, Mahler's "Resurrection," which has been released by BBC Legends to great acclaim, is performed. Kempe and the Munich Philharmonic were in the midst of recording Beethoven's complete symphonies for the German Electrola in 1972, and on September 6, they performed the second movement of "Hero" at the memorial service for the Munich bombing that had occurred the day before. Perhaps because it was the first day of their three concerts at the Proms that year, the orchestra seemed a little confused at the beginning of the overture to "Prometheus' Creation" in the huge capacity of the Royal Albert Hall, but it was soon corrected and the orchestra performed "Death The orchestra's fine and crisp expression in "Death and Purification" is a true testament to their abilities.The original BBC tapes have been digitally remastered by Paul Bailey, a highly acclaimed reissuer of historical recordings.
