2017 is the 250th anniversary of Telemann's death. In conjunction with this, many labels have released interesting Telemann albums. One of the leading composers of late Baroque music, his music, which incorporated and matured all the musical styles of France, Italy, Germany, and Poland, where he lived for a time, enthralled audiences of the time. He also served as the music director of Hamburg, and was a craftsman of such a high caliber that he took on all the music performed at events in the city. The "Twelve Fantasies" was a strategic work that he himself placed an ad in a local newspaper in 1735 to reserve a copy. Of course, it became very popular, and the sheet music is said to have sold like hotcakes. Telemann's other fantasies are for several other instruments, including flute and gamba, but they are all imaginative works that make full use of brilliant techniques. Naxos Japan
