The Maestro and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra gave a masterful performance that left audiences overwhelmingly moved. The live recordings of all five pieces have been re-mastered for the first time on SACD. This is the first SACD release of No. 5. It is still fresh in our memories that Sukrovaczewski (1923-2017) gave numerous masterpieces with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra as the Permanent Conductor and Honorary Conductor. These performances, which can be regarded as the Maestro's great legacy, were recorded live and released on SACD with some exceptions at the time. On the 100th anniversary of the Maestro's birth, all five recordings have been re-mastered and released as a set. This is the first SACD release of No. 5. Skrowaczewski's many Bruckner performances with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra have had a great impact on Japanese audiences. Nippon Columbia's live recordings of some of these performances have left a significant mark on Japanese recording history. The five recordings in this reissue were all made when he was over 80 years old, and the 2016 recording of No. 8 is a valuable record of his last visit to Japan the year before his death (of the two performances, the concert on 1/23, the next one in this release, was his last performance in Japan). It was an irreplaceable opportunity for Japanese audiences to see him in Japan even though he was over 90 years old.Although it was not realized, it is still fresh in our memories that the Bruckner No. 5 was supposed to be performed in 2017, but the substitute, Rozhestvensky, gave an unprecedented performance of Schalk's version. Of the five pieces reissued this time, Bruckner No. 5 from April 2008 was released after his death as an unreleased live performance, so it has not been released on SACD since the other four pieces were released, but the other four pieces have already been released once on SACD single layer (No. 8) and on SACD hybrid (No. 9). For this reissue commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birth, the latest reissue has been done by a single engineer who has remastered them in the latest version. The original masters are in excellent condition, but this reissue is the first time that they have been mastered differently from the commercial version, and they are being released as a set of five discs at a price of 2,000 yen or less per disc.
