The Polish "piano duo" Anna & Ines Valakhovsky began studying music when Anna was 4 years old and Ines was 6 years old. In 1983, when their family moved to Germany, they entered the University of Music and Theater in Hanover and the Mozarteum Salzburg, She decided to work as a piano duo under the tutelage of Alphonse Kontarsky. The legendary American music critic Harold C. Schoenberg praised the duo's playing, describing it as "rich in rhythm and color, with a wide range of durmics and inexhaustible technique," and this was a stepping stone to international fame. In their nearly 20 years of activity to date, the girls have recorded a variety of albums, from Mozart to Gershwin, and this album features works by Brahms, Schumann, and Schumann's wife Clara, suggesting the affection and deep friendship between these three geniuses who flourished during the Romantic era.
