Description:

Henze respected the radio opera form because "it can express what cannot be done on stage. The two radio operas included here are "The Country Doctor," based on Kafka's novel of the same name, and "The End of the World," based on Hildesheimer's novel "The Legend of Lost Love. The Country Doctor" is Kafka's surrealism, "The End of the World" his unrelenting irony, and the two works are inseparable. The Country Doctor" is set in winter. In the middle of the night, a country doctor is called by a very sick man, but he is unable to treat him adequately because his horse has died. One day, an unfamiliar person introduces this doctor to two new eugenics. The doctor tries to turn the horses away, but they follow him and he decides to keep them. Later he met another untreatable patient and tried to escape on this horse, but the horse kept running forever and ever.The content is surrealistic, but the theatricality of the singers creates a frightening atmosphere. The End of the World" is another of Henze's unusually biting critiques of society (criticism of aristocracy), and the sharp orchestration is also very well handled. King International
